VENTILE

Ventile is an effective water repellent fabric.
To learn how effective the garment will be it is necessary for it to be subjected for a given period of time to a standard shower of controlled, simulated rain under suitable realistic conditions.

nostalgia !

After 8 hours in the equivalent of a tropical storm water penetration will be negligible for single Ventile. In a double Ventile layer garment this protection is increased to 24 hours.

Perfection is not something you achieve. It's something you strive for. Some all weather fabrics are incredibly tough, some are superb in the rain, while others are so warm, it has to be freezing to wear them. None is perfect, but in achieving the kind of compromise which suits most people, in most of the time, Ventile comes closest. Ventile is weather proof, even in extreme conditions. Yet because it's a natural fabric, made from pure long staple cotton, and not coated or laminated in any way, it 'breathes' naturally and far more effectively than other all-weather fabrics. While at the same time, it wears, looks and feels as only a natural fabric can.

Proven. Ventile was developed in wartime, for use in immersion suits, designed to protect the lives of pilots forced to bail out or ditch in the sea. It was cool and comfortable in the cockpit; warm and impenetrable in the icy waves. And the fact that it became and remains standard issue, through generations of military aircraft from Hurricanes to Tornadoes, says all that needs to be said of its performance. The perfect compromise. As near to perfection as you're likely to get.

Protection and care. Worn in various forms by mountaineers and explorers from Tenxing and Hillary to the transpolar adventurers, Fiennes and Stround, Ventile is incredibly hard wearing. Its breathability stems from a combination of cotton and a special weave, which tightens and relaxes as the weather turns from wet to dry. Unlike with coated fabrics and laminated synthetics, this natural respiration lasts for the life of the fabric, which in Ventile's case, can be a very long time indeed.
